Privacy & Cookie Policy
Short version: your files are converted on your own device and never uploaded anywhere. This page explains that in full, plus what cookies we use and what rights you have.

Who runs this site
LocalFiles (localfiles.app) is an independent website providing free, browser-based file tools. For any question about this policy, your data, or to exercise the rights described below, contact info@localfiles.app. This policy will be updated with the full operator details before the site is used as a commercial service.
What happens to the files you process
Every tool on this site runs entirely inside your browser. When you drop in a file, it is read from your disk, processed using your device's own processing power, and handed back to you as a download — it is never transmitted to our servers or anyone else's. You can confirm this yourself: load a tool page, disconnect from the internet, and the conversion still works.
Because your files are processed locally, we do not receive, see, copy, store or share their contents. Hosting and security providers may keep ordinary technical request logs for the pages and scripts they serve, but those logs do not contain the files you convert or edit.
Cookies and similar technologies
Separately from how the tools work, this website may use cookies and browser storage to run analytics, display ads and remember your choice. You control optional cookies through the banner shown on your first visit, or any time via Cookie settings in the footer. Choices are stored locally in your browser for 180 days, after which you'll be asked again.
Saved preference
A single entry in your browser's local storage records whether you accepted optional cookies, so we don't ask again on every page. This is not sent to any server and cannot be disabled without also losing your saved preference.
Analytics
If you allow it, Google Analytics 4 measures which pages and tools are used, in aggregate, so we know what to build next. It may set cookies such as _ga and _ga_*. Data is anonymised where possible and never combined with the contents of any file you convert, because that content never leaves your device in the first place.
Advertising
If you allow it, Google AdSense shows ads that keep this site free, and may set cookies such as __gads, __gpi and IDE to limit how often you see the same ad and, where permitted, personalise them. If you decline, you may still see ads, but they should not be personalised to you.

Third-party services this site loads
A few resources are loaded from outside servers to make the site work and look right. Loading them reveals your IP address to that provider, the same way it would for any website you visit.
- Google Fonts — typefaces used across the site. See Google's privacy policy.

- jsDelivr (CDN) — some tools, such as HEIC to JPG, download a small conversion library from jsDelivr the first time you use them. Only the library code is fetched; your files are not sent through it. See jsDelivr's privacy policy.
Legal basis for processing
Where GDPR applies, analytics and advertising cookies are set only on the basis of your consent, given through the cookie banner, and you can withdraw it at any time via Cookie settings in the footer. Loading the page itself, and running the tools, relies on our legitimate interest in operating the site — no personal data about your files is involved, since they never leave your device.
Data retention
Google Analytics data is retained according to the GA4 configuration (event data for up to 14 months by default). Advertising cookies persist for the durations listed in the table above. We do not run application servers that receive or store your files, because the tools process them locally in your browser.
Your rights
If GDPR applies to you, you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the personal data we hold, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting past processing. To exercise any of these, email info@localfiles.app. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — for Slovakia, the Úrad na ochranu osobných údajov SR. If you're located elsewhere, your local equivalent body has jurisdiction too.
International visitors
This site is available worldwide. Wherever you're visiting from, the same rule applies: your files stay on your device. Where cookies you've consented to send data to Google, that data may be processed in the United States or other countries under Google's standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change with it. Significant changes will be reflected here directly — there's no separate mailing list to notify, since we don't collect your email unless you write to us first.
